Program details

Overview

The Journalism associate degree introduces students to mass media and how reporting is changing as print and digital platforms converge. Students learn to adapt their practices and content to that shifting landscape. The program points toward news reporting and related paths in social media, PR, marketing, ads and public-sector communication. A certificate in the same field is available as a shorter route. The associate degree combines the major courses with general education and electives to reach the 60-unit total the college requires. It can serve as a stopping point for entering work or as a base for continued study, and the college publishes a separate general requirements page for the full pattern. Major courses call for at least a C. Students should confirm the full course list in the college catalog and speak with a counselor about sequencing.
