The Computer Information Systems program at Southwestern Illinois College leads to an applied science degree, and students pick a focus area. The choices are software development, building websites, designing websites, and IT support services. Software students write business applications in languages such as Python, C# and JavaScript. The website-building focus covers server-side and browser-side tools for keeping modern sites running across devices. The design focus mixes creative work with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and responsive layouts, while the support focus teaches office software, networking basics and troubleshooting for users. Each focus area also has its own certificate, so learners can earn a shorter credential before completing the degree. The whole degree can be taken online, and a coordinator is available to advise.
