The doctorate in counselor education and supervision builds on the equivalent of a CACREP-accredited master's degree. Doctoral students then complete a large body of additional coursework.
The plan includes doctoral field experience combining supervised clinical work, teaching and clinical supervision, a set of core counseling courses, a cognate area, one elective, research tools in methodology and statistics, and a dissertation. One research course must be in qualitative methods.
The program prepares graduates to teach, supervise and lead in counseling, with training in research alongside advanced clinical skills.
Students work with faculty on clinical training and teaching, and learn to supervise future counselors. The mix of practice and scholarship prepares graduates for faculty positions, supervisory roles and leadership across counseling agencies and schools.
