AA/AS in Criminal Justice and Corrections

The criminal justice offering at Tyler Junior College serves students who want to work as police officers, criminal investigators or corrections staff. The department is staffed by people with backgrounds as local and federal officers, department leaders, scene technicians and homicide detectives, so classroom material draws on first-hand casework. Students choose among several credentials listed on the program page, including an associate of arts, applied science tracks, an occupational skills award and certificates in crime scene investigation and field of study. Coursework introduces current investigative methods and the structure of the justice system. A campus student association gives members speakers, networking and trips to other cities. People already employed as Texas peace officers may be able to have part of their tuition and lab charges waived.
