Mathematics at the University at Buffalo appeals to students drawn to patterns and the logic behind the natural world. The subject supports encryption, technology development and a deeper grasp of how systems connect, and the program offers many ways to specialize.
The College of Arts and Sciences provides a BA and a BS with several concentrations, including pure mathematics, applied mathematics, mathematics education, computing and applied mathematics, and actuarial science. A mathematics-economics BA and a combined route toward an adolescence education master's are also available, along with a minor.
Outside class, students can carry out research over a summer or semester, complete internships to gain experience and contacts, study abroad, and join student clubs, among them the Undergraduate Math Club. Because mathematics is much the same everywhere, spending a semester overseas tends to be fairly simple.
