BA/BS in Statistics

People rely on data every day to make choices, and this major teaches where that data originates and how interpretation shapes decisions. It suits students who enjoy working with numbers and want to use them in areas such as public policy, clinical trials, organizational growth or improving health outcomes. Learners acquire skills in managing and analyzing data across settings like health care and finance, using several kinds of software to address real problems. Required courses usually cover statistical methods, probability theory and other core ideas, complemented by additional classes. Faculty are active researchers who have developed and used statistical techniques in many fields and have worked with major organizations including the National Institutes of Health. Students describe them as supportive and helpful as graduation approaches. The bachelor of arts is offered by the Department of Biostatistics in the public health school, and a statistics minor is available.
