The Master of Fine Arts in Dance is a terminal degree in choreography and teaching. Its core curriculum develops an individual artistic voice through performance, choreography, teaching, research and writing, and supports new creative work with study of theory, history and artists across dance genres.
A large portion of the credits are student-selected courses and electives, so students work closely with their advisor to shape coursework, independent studies and a secondary area of emphasis. The credit requirement exceeds the Graduate School minimum because the program values physical practice alongside theoretical study, and it meets standards for national certification.
The program is part of the University of Colorado Boulder catalog. Interested students should review the current catalog entry and contact the responsible department about advising, application steps and upcoming requirements before planning their studies.
