Overview
This doctoral program in leadership for social justice reflects current scholarship about leading in higher education, how organizations function and how institutions change, viewed through inclusive excellence, justice and belonging. It is aimed at mid-career leaders who want to turn their postsecondary workplaces into strong learning communities.
The format is built around employed adults. Students move through a cohort, take remote synchronous evening courses in the fall and spring, and do dissertation work during the summer. Graduates are awarded the EdD, specializing in social justice leadership.
Cohorts are intentionally diverse, drawing from universities, schools, health professions, government and human service organizations. Admission is granted in the fall semester, and many alumni have moved into senior leadership roles in education and health care.
The program is offered through the College of Education, Nursing, and Health Professions at the University of Hartford in Connecticut, which stresses supervised practice, experienced faculty and support for students entering the education profession. Applicants can request information and consult the course catalog.
