UIC's mathematics, statistics, and computing department also grants statistics degrees, at both graduate levels. The Master of Science is a starting point for students who want solid grounding in statistical theory and practice.
Courses run from introductory probability and probability theory to regression, categorical data analysis, experimental design, and statistical learning, with applications taught in R and SAS. Special topics are open as well, including Bayesian inference, resampling techniques, biostatistics, and environmental sampling.
The program fits students who plan to analyze data for a living or to go on toward a statistics doctorate in the department. Graduates are prepared for jobs that depend on careful quantitative reasoning, and the surrounding mathematical setting offers further work in probability and computing.
