BA/BS in Communication and Media Studies

The Department of Communication at the University of Indianapolis turns interest in communication into career preparation through experience in the field. Students might run a real public relations firm, report for a newspaper, or work at a professional radio station, so learning happens by doing rather than only by reading. Undergraduates earn a BA or BS in Communication and choose a track in media, communication studies, journalism, public relations, sports communication, or theatre. A graduate MA in Public Relations is also available. Experiential courses cover everything from building a communications plan to producing television and radio shows, and students produce real work for Indianapolis non-profits through Top Dog Communication or help manage The Reflector, the campus newspaper. Faculty have industry backgrounds, and several still work in their fields while teaching. The department maintains close ties with alumni, who provide networking opportunities for new graduates.
