BA/BS in Communication and Media Studies

This undergraduate degree in the College of Communication teaches how media messages are created, distributed and evaluated strategically. Its grounding in empirical science sets it apart from more production-oriented communication majors. Students learn communication theory, apply it to media strategy and content, and carry out research and advanced analytics to guide practice. They also study how media are used and what effects they have in a changing landscape. Career paths include media design, message development and evaluation, and the major also prepares students for graduate work on media effects, health communication, political communication and marketing research. Hub general education requirements are largely covered through the major. Course details, learning outcomes and degree requirements appear on the program page, and the university's general education framework applies alongside the major.
