This doctoral program is a collaboration among faculty at five campuses, offering advanced study with access to the combined resources of those institutions. Students draw on the strengths of each campus in their training. Students benefit from the intellectual community that spans these campuses.
The doctoral work covers three broad regions, Europe, the US, and Latin America, with subfields inside each region. Candidates select a specialization and a major field, then sit for a general exam covering three fields prior to writing their dissertations.
The program stresses research training, broad public writing, and preparation for careers in academia and other fields. Candidates learn to reach both professional and popular audiences. Candidates also present work to a range of audiences over the course of their training.
