BA/BS in Applied Mathematics

The Applied Mathematics major suits students who want to put mathematical reasoning to work on real-world problems, such as those arising in engineering. Coursework builds problem-solving ability through quantitative techniques and modern tools, and it shows how models are used to describe behavior across many fields. Students also come to value the logic and beauty of mathematics, along with a solid grounding in theory. Strong communication and cooperative work are woven into the training, which prepares graduates to step into professional roles with skills they can use immediately. Graduates may pursue careers in many fields where mathematical thinking is essential, continue to graduate study in mathematics, or enter the classroom as teachers of the subject. Throughout the program, students also practice using technology to test ideas and communicate results clearly.
