Program details

Overview

The bioengineering program, also called biomedical engineering, prepares students to apply engineering to health and biology. Students study mechanics, electrical systems, transport phenomena and materials as they relate to the body, and a specialized pathway serves students preparing for health and medical professions who need to meet admission requirements for professional schools. Graduates are expected to apply engineering solutions to biomedical problems, keep learning and pursue advanced study, and show ethical leadership and teamwork. Career paths include medical research, medical instrument design, biorobotics and intellectual property law. ABET's Engineering Accreditation Commission has accredited the Bachelor of Science. Prospective students can request information or begin an application directly from the program page, and the admissions staff can answer questions about requirements, timelines and the steps that follow acceptance.
