BA/BS in Applied Mathematics

Applied Mathematics brings together study in the biological, physical and engineering sciences. Training stresses mathematical methods such as scientific computing and data science, alongside application areas including mathematical biology, health sciences, wave phenomena, finance, studying data and simulating climate. The major is part of the College of Arts & Sciences and relates to computing and engineering interests. A minor can be added. Entry is competitive: after enrolling at the university, students submit a further application to the department. Prospective majors should consult the department site for the specific steps and prerequisites that apply. First-year students who begin here may start in autumn or winter quarter, a route open to U.S. applicants only. Transfer applicants need general admission to the university, and the courses completed beforehand weigh in the decision about the major.
