PGCert in Economics

The applied economics certificate at Valparaiso University is an 18-credit graduate credential in which students learn micro and macroeconomic principles and apply them to financial, international, and labor markets. It suits people who want to use economic ideas in government, education, nonprofit, and banking roles, and it does not demand a heavy theoretical or quantitative component. Required courses include theory and applications in microeconomics and macroeconomics and the economics of financial markets. Applicants must meet graduate admission requirements, and students not enrolled in a Valparaiso graduate program apply as non-degree seeking students. Up to three credits may transfer from another institution. New admission to this certificate is on pause starting with the Fall 2026 term. Prospective students can apply, request information, or schedule a campus visit through the university website, where the program page also lists degree requirements and sample course plans.
