PGCert in Homeland Security

This certificate centers on domestic security and emergency management in the United States. It is offered through the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences and requires 12 graduate credits. The certificate is open to Virginia Tech graduate students and to others not enrolled in Virginia Tech graduate programs. Coursework examines terrorism, natural hazards, and other threats, along with hazard mitigation, preparedness, resilience, and response and recovery strategies. Topics include strategy, policy design, planning, operations, and implementation across networks of agencies. Instruction comes from a mix of academic scholars and practitioners. Electives span public policy processes, national security, critical infrastructure protection, and science and technology policy.
