The Bachelor of Science in Education for Special Education prepares future teachers for K-12 classrooms. Students complete coursework and several clinical placements, and after passing the required state teacher certification tests they become eligible for a Michigan teaching certificate or a special education endorsement.
Students choose a concentration in cognitive impairment or autism spectrum disorder. Total credit hours vary by general education choices and by the grade band selected, and majors must satisfy both university and College of Education requirements. Clinical experiences occur at different points in the program, giving candidates repeated practice before they enter their own classrooms.
Graduates who finish the degree and pass state testing may seek the certificate or endorsement appropriate to their concentration. The program page offers an application link and an information request for prospective students.
