Overview
Created 1985 as the Mining and Metallurgy Department of Engineering College in Beiyang University.
It was moved and combined to the Department of Mining and Metallurgy of Northwest Institute of Technology 1938. Merged into Xi'an Jiaotong University 1957, then it was separated from Xi'an Jiaotong University and the Xi'an Mining Institute was established independently 1958.
It was one of the two five-year undergraduate institutes subordinate to the former Ministry of Coal Industry. Transferred to Shaanxi Province and renamed as Xi'an Institute of Science and Technology 1999.
Acquired present title 2003.
