Founded 1931 as Radio School of the Central Military Commission in Ruijin.
Successively became CMC Radio and Communication School 1935, North China Military District Telecommunication Engineering Training School (Vocational College) 1948 (Hebei), China People's Revolution Military Affairs Transmission Engineering School 1949 (Hebei), moved to Xi'an and renamed China People Liberation Army Signal Corps College 1958, China People Liberation Army Telecommunications Engineering College 1960, North West Telecommunications Engineering College 1966. Moved to Xi’an 1958 and became a civilian institution 1966.
Acquired present status and title 1988. Part of "211 Project" universities.
