Overview
The University of Wuppertal, known in German as the Bergische Universität Wuppertal, is a public university in North Rhine-Westphalia.
It is organised into eight faculties and a School of Education that coordinates teacher training, alongside an Institute for Educational Research. The faculties cover the humanities and cultural studies, human and social sciences, economics, mathematics and natural sciences, architecture and civil engineering, electrical, information and media engineering, mechanical engineering and safety engineering, and design and art.
The economics faculty trades internationally as the Schumpeter School of Business and Economics. Degree programmes range from Bachelor's and Master's courses in engineering, transport economics and business to artistic Master's programmes such as Public Interest Design, and teacher-education pathways leading to the Master of Education.
Prospective students apply through the central Student Registry (Studierendensekretariat), which handles applications and enrolment.
Many Master's programmes admit students for both the winter semester in October and the summer semester in April, while most Bachelor's programmes start in the winter semester. Applicants holding a foreign degree typically apply through the uni-assist service.
Support for new students includes the central study advisory service, the library, the Studierendenwerk student services, and orientation programmes that help with the start of studies.
