Overview

The Associate Degree in Economics at Barbados Community College introduces students to the economic forces that shape everyday life in Barbados and the wider region. Rather than treating economics as an abstract subject, the programme works through real scenarios and data so students learn to read economic conditions, weigh competing explanations and reach informed judgements about policy and personal decisions alike. Case-based learning is central to the Division of Commerce's approach here: working through concrete examples sharpens students' reasoning and trains them to think several steps ahead, forecasting how a change in one part of the economy might ripple through growth, prices or employment elsewhere. The full-time major at the College gives school leavers and other new entrants a solid grounding before they move into commerce-related employment or continue toward further study at the College or another institution in the region.
