The Master of Philosophy is a research degree open to students across all of the University of Belize's faculties and institutes, rather than being tied to one subject area. Candidates work mainly on their own, producing an independent thesis under supervision, which makes the program a fit for people who already have a clear research question and the discipline to pursue it with limited classroom structure. Entry requires a recognized bachelor's degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or an equivalent upper-second-class result on US, UK or UWI scales, along with a resume, academic recommendations and a research proposal; some applicants are also asked to attend an interview. International candidates must show English proficiency through TOEFL or IELTS and submit an approved credential evaluation. Students who take on teaching or research assistantships may qualify for a tuition waiver.
