The Certificate of Applied Science is a two-year, 23-course program at Acadia University that provides the foundational science, mathematics, and engineering coursework for students beginning an engineering degree. Students complete their first two years in small classes with close faculty contact before transferring, typically to Dalhousie University, to finish a professional engineering degree in one of seven disciplines: chemical, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, industrial, or mechanical. The program emphasizes hands-on design and prototyping alongside core science and mathematics instruction. Students who complete the certificate may also pursue combined programs pairing engineering study with a Bachelor of Science in biology, chemistry, mathematics, or physics, or continue toward a three-year Bachelor of Applied Science at Acadia. Co-operative education placements become available in the third and fourth year after transferring to Dalhousie, and study-abroad options exist for accredited pathways. The certificate is a recognized first step toward becoming a professional engineer.
