Overview
Overview Explore the array of human services careers to define your pathway. The one-year Human Services Foundations Ontario College Certificate allows you to explore career opportunities within human services and prepare for the most appropriate academic and professional pathway for you. Human services supports individuals, families and communities to attain a higher quality of life. As a student, you examine how different human services professionals collaborate to contribute to a better society. In this program, you develop core skills that are common to all areas of human services such as relationship building, team-work and stress management. You increase your own awareness of issues of diversity and inclusion in Canada and how social issues influence human and community development. You develop a strong understanding of client and community needs and the impact that systemic barriers have on marginalizing specific populations. This exploration empowers you to select a population group and industry that you would like to focus on. You develop academic skills and career planning skills to support you through the next stages of your academic study. This foundational training provides students with an introduction to more advanced human services programs including, but not limited to: Child and Youth Care Social Services Worker Community and Justice Services Early Childhood Education Developmental Services Worker As a graduate, you will qualify to receive transfer credits in related programs for some courses taken in this program. Requirements
Admission Requirements: College Eligibility requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or Mature Student status for applicants 19 or older without a diploma. Program Eligibility adds Grade 12 English (ENG4C or equivalent). International applicants must meet Algonquin's English Language Proficiency requirement: IELTS Academic overall band 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each band, the Duolingo English Test at 110 overall with no component below 95, or TOEFL iBT at the score Algonquin publishes for the test's current format. Where qualified applicants exceed available places, Algonquin selects on English proficiency alone; no minimum GPA is published for domestic applicants.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for September 2027 entry the application portal opens 26 September 2026, the equal consideration date is 1 February 2027, and offers must be accepted by 1 May 2027, while later applications are still assessed as space allows; Algonquin publishes no separate equal-consideration date for the January 2027 intake. International applicants apply directly via Algonquin's own International Application Portal, not ontariocolleges.ca; instead of one fixed date the college posts a program-by-program closing-date list shortly before each term starts - for Fall 2026 most programs closed 16 September 2026, technology programs by 9-10 September; no Winter 2027 or Fall 2027 international list has been posted yet, so admission remains effectively rolling until each list is published and fills. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
