PGCert in Advanced Care Paramedic

Admission Requirements: Algonquin publishes these requirements for the Sept 2027 - Aug 2028 admissions year on this program's own page; the requirements for Sept 2026 - Aug 2027 are shown separately there and can differ. Program code 3005X01FWO. All applicants must satisfy both College Eligibility and Program Eligibility. PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY (post-diploma entry): a two-year Ontario College Primary Care Paramedic diploma plus an Advanced-Emergency Care Assistant (A-EMCA or equivalent) certificate from the Emergency Health Services Branch of Ontario's Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Applicants whose status is still pending may apply. A valid Ontario Class F driver's licence, or its equivalent, is required before classes begin. SELECTION: every applicant sits an assessment at the Test Centre for a fee, and the result sets minimum eligibility and ranks applicants. Applicants with 1,000 hours of land or air paramedic work receive 10 extra points once the minimum test score is met, provided a signed employer letter on Paramedic Service letterhead attesting to those hours is submitted with the application. Applicants presenting transcripts from outside Canada must document the subjects above and may be asked for evidence of language proficiency; a domestic applicant holding international transcripts must have them assessed by the International Credential Assessment Service of Canada (ICAS) or World Education Services (WES). ENGLISH: Academic IELTS 6.5 overall with nothing under 6.0 in any band; or TOEFL iBT 88 overall with 22 in each of reading, listening, speaking and writing where the test was sat before 21 January 2026, or 4.5 overall with 4.5 in each section where it was sat after that date; or a Duolingo English Test score of 120 overall with 120 in Literacy and nothing under 105. AFTER ACCEPTANCE: a Health Assessment Form and immunisation certificate, proof of quantitative mask fit testing, and a recent police records check. Clinical placement is required to graduate, and host agencies require a clear Police Records Check for Service with the Vulnerable Sector; acceptance for placement is the agency's decision, and a student who cannot be placed cannot graduate. To be cleared for placement you must produce seasonal influenza immunisation; COVID-19 vaccination, which is mandatory; the Algonquin College Health Services immunisation form with serology covering measles/mumps/rubella, varicella, tuberculosis, pertussis, polio and hepatitis B plus a communicable-diseases attestation. Also required: Standard First Aid; CPR at HCP level, Level C no longer being accepted; fit testing for an N95; a criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening; WHMIS; AODA accessibility training; Ministry of Labour safety awareness training; a driver's licence; and affirmation of the mandatory second uniform and safety items. Fit testing, WHMIS, accessibility and safety training are provided by the College; the rest are at the applicant's cost. Hospital and field practicums additionally require health and safety, crisis-management and de-escalation, and high-risk personal protective equipment training, none of it covered by tuition.
