Overview
This 21-hour Micro-Credential provides you an opportunity to explore hair types; work hands-on with products and processes specific to textured hair; understand protective hairstyles; explore natural and heat/chemically straightened hairstyles; and practice common film techniques, like styling for continuity and the use of hair extensions, in a textured-hair-specific environment. This Micro-Credential focuses on working in the Film industry, while the content also applies to hair stylists across many industries. This Micro-Credential opens access for Red Seal hairdressers to flexible careers in the Film and Television industry, with a specific focus on textured hair.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Camosun's own Prerequisites section for this Working with Textured Hair micro-credential requires applicants to already hold one of three credentials: a current Red Seal Hairstylist Certification, a Certificate of Qualifications from the Beauty Council of Western Canada, or a British Columbia Hair License. Anyone without one of these qualifications is directed to email the ProSIT office for individual recommendations before applying, rather than being automatically excluded. No English-language proficiency score, minimum grade average, portfolio, interview, or age requirement is stated. The 21-hour program can be taken on its own or alongside the other Hair in Film micro-credentials, and it qualifies for the province's StrongerBC future skills grant of up to $3,500 per person, subject to separate eligibility confirmation through the ProSIT StrongerBC page.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through EducationPlannerBC for Camosun's open-enrolment programmes: for Fall 2027 (September) applications open 1 October 2026 with an early deadline of 15 May 2027 for priority registration and a late deadline of 26 August 2027; Winter 2027 (January) runs 15 September 2026 to 7 January 2027, and Summer 2027 (May) 15 January 2027 to 29 April 2027. Limited-enrolment programmes publish only an opening date and can close once the waitlist exceeds the seats on offer. International applicants must submit a complete application by 1 June (Fall), 1 October (Winter) or 1 February (Summer), though later applications are still reviewed while seats remain, making admission effectively rolling for both groups once the early deadlines pass. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
