The Information Technology - Hardware Technician Apprenticeship trains signed apprentices to service and support microcomputer hardware. All in-school theory instruction is delivered online, while the practical, hands-on component is completed on the job with the apprentice's employer. The program is organized into two levels, each requiring roughly one and a half years to complete: Level 1 totals 360 hours of instruction and Level 2 totals 270 hours, for a program length of about three years overall. Coursework covers computer hardware installation, maintenance, diagnostics and repair, building toward the skills assessed on the Ontario Certificate of Qualification exam for the trade. Because the theory portion is online, apprentices can complete coursework remotely while continuing to work. Enrolment requires an active registration as a signed apprentice with Skilled Trades Ontario before applying to the program.
