Overview
The Outdoor Recreation Management Diploma focuses on growing your expertise with training in several vital areas, including tourism, wilderness travel, guiding, business management, marketing and leadership. Through classroom study, relevant field trips, and work experience, you'll develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to contribute to the exciting and challenging outdoor recreation industry. You'll take courses in financial planning, experiential education, entrepreneurship, outdoor guiding, risk management and more. This training will prepare you for future careers in adventure tourism, community and outdoor recreation, parks and conservation, or experiential and outdoor education. You'll also participate in a co-op work experience placement before completing your diploma.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent, with English Studies 12, English 12, or English First Peoples 12 at a C grade (or the English Development Test equivalent, ENGL 100), plus one of Principles of Math 11 (C), Pre-Calculus 11 (pass), Foundations of Math 11 (C), or an equivalent upgrading course (BMTH 044, BMTH 048, MATH 096, MATH 097 at C, or Applications/Foundations/Principles of Math 12, Pre-Calculus 12, BMTH 054 at pass, or BTEC 115 at B-). The programme page defers to Capilano's general English Language Requirements for applicants educated in a language other than English: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (no band below 6), TOEFL iBT 83, CAEL 70, PTE Academic 56, or Duolingo English Test 125+ (no sub-score below 115). Applicants also submit a resume. Grade 12 students may apply for conditional admission on interim marks, with final admission contingent on graduation.
