Program details

Overview

The 2D Animation & Visual Development Diploma is a full-time two-year career program that focuses on drawing, design and classical animation skills. In the program, you'll study historical and current techniques of the animation industry to boost your skills in design elements, form, timing, character design and industry principles. Taught by industry professionals, the animation courses at CapU will help you develop a portfolio of your work to show to future employers. Upon graduation, you'll have the skillset to start a career working in Vancouver's TV and film production fields.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires B.C. secondary school graduation or equivalent; the programme page lists no specific Grade 12 subject or average. The English requirement here is Capilano's university-wide English Proficiency Requirement, set out in the institution's own admission requirements: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6, TOEFL iBT 83 (or an overall score of 4.5 with no section below 4.0 on the redesigned scale for Spring 2027 applicants and later), CAEL 70, PTE Academic 56, or Duolingo English Test 125+ with no sub-score below 115 (accepted on a temporary basis). On top of that, this programme requires an interview and a portfolio, and applicants may be asked to complete a drawing exercise. Grade 12 students still finishing secondary school may be granted conditional admission on their final Grade 11 or interim Grade 12 marks, pending graduation and release of B.C. Ministry of Education transcripts to the university.

Application Details

Start Date: Fall 2027
Application Deadline: Domestic and international applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC: the domestic application fee is $50 CAD and the international fee is $135 CAD, each covering up to two programmes. Capilano University publishes no university-wide application-opening or closing date for either group for the 2026-27 cycle; its how-to-apply pages instruct applicants to check the application and document deadlines on their chosen programme's own page, since every programme sets its own intake window there. Admission is effectively rolling at the institution level, governed programme by programme, with some programmes (for example the Health Care Assistant Certificate) publishing a fixed intake window that opens and closes months ahead of the start date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
