Overview
The Adult Basic Education program offers prerequisite courses in math, English, biology, chemistry, physics, computer studies and history. They can help you: complete your high school diploma courses and achieve your BC Adult Dogwood Graduation Diploma; improve your marks in Grade 11 or 12 courses needed as prerequisites for post-secondary studies; improve your GPA in college programs; complete university prerequisites; and get your English 100 credit and English 12 in the same semester.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is based on high school-level English and computer skills or their equivalent, verified through a mandatory written English language assessment; the programme page states no formal international test score (IELTS/TOEFL/PTE) requirement. Applicants must also attend a programme information session and submit a written paragraph outlining their educational goals. Optional subject-area assessments (the English assessment and written paragraph are mandatory) are offered online so applicants can demonstrate current skill level and potentially skip entry-level courses; applicants whose first language is not English may be required to complete English for Academic Purposes (EAP) coursework before admission to the ABE programme itself. Every applicant meets with an instructor who advises on course selection, delivery format (fully online or blended online/in-person), and a personalized study pathway before enrolment is finalized.
Application Details
Start Date:Fall 2026
Application Deadline:Domestic and international applicants both apply through EducationPlannerBC: the domestic application fee is $50 CAD and the international fee is $135 CAD, each covering up to two programmes. Capilano University publishes no university-wide application-opening or closing date for either group for the 2026-27 cycle; its how-to-apply pages instruct applicants to check the application and document deadlines on their chosen programme's own page, since every programme sets its own intake window there. Admission is effectively rolling at the institution level, governed programme by programme, with some programmes (for example the Health Care Assistant Certificate) publishing a fixed intake window that opens and closes months ahead of the start date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
