Overview

Arts, Letters and Communication, Media profile is a two-year (four-session) pre-university DEC that prepares students for university study in communication, media, and the arts. Coursework covers communication practices in television, radio, and journalism; multimedia production including infography, video editing, and audio capture; media analysis and criticism; literary criticism and fictional writing; the history of artistic movements; journalistic genres and public relations; and film studies covering Quebec and international cinema, alongside the general education courses required of all DEC programs (French literature, philosophy, English, and physical education). The two years culminate in a media project that integrates skills built across the program. Students work in dedicated studio spaces, including a radio studio, recording booth, and projection room, and have access to video cameras and editing software. The college maintains partnerships with local media and cultural organizations that can lead to summer employment, and organizes cultural outings such as film festivals and theatre visits. Admission follows standard Quebec collegial entry requirements, and the program is open enrollment rather than competitive. It suits students drawn to communication, cinema, literature, photography, journalism, and the arts who want to strengthen their oral and written expression before pursuing university studies in fields such as cinema, communication, journalism, public relations, or literature.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: The programme page for Arts, lettres et communication // Médias states only that applicants must meet Cégep de La Pocatière's general college admission conditions, listing no programme-specific secondary courses. Under Quebec's collegial system that general condition means holding a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) from the youth or adult sector, or a recognised equivalent, since this pre-university profile carries no ministerial course prerequisites of its own. Instruction is delivered in French and the page states no English- or French-language test score (no IELTS, TOEFL, or similar) for admission. The programme is non-contingenté (uncapped), takes its next intake in Automne 2026, and lists no portfolio, interview, or other special condition.
