Overview

Arts, Letters and Communication, Languages profile is a pre-university DEC offered as a two-year regular program or a one-year intensive format. It centres on language learning across several levels: English is developed from existing proficiency, Spanish is taught from elementary through advanced stages, and students are introduced to further languages such as Japanese, German, or Italian. Classroom instruction in the target languages is combined with cultural and linguistic immersion, including a six-week study period abroad in an English- or Spanish-speaking country, or in a non-francophone setting in Canada, chosen according to the student's language focus. Students also take part in a local project working alongside organizations that support newcomers, and in cultural activities that may include calligraphy, dance, or international cuisine. General education courses in French, philosophy, and physical education complete the program alongside the language curriculum. Admission follows standard Quebec collegial entry requirements. The program suits students interested in language acquisition, intercultural communication, and travel, and who are open to unfamiliar cultures. It leads toward university study in fields such as communication, translation, education, international relations, literature and linguistics, law, or anthropology, and several bursaries exist to help fund the immersion component.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: The programme page for Arts, lettres et communication // Langues states only that applicants must meet Cégep de La Pocatière's general college admission conditions, listing no programme-specific secondary courses. Under Quebec's collegial system that general condition means holding a Diplôme d'études secondaires (DES) from the youth or adult sector, or a recognised equivalent, since this pre-university profile carries no ministerial course prerequisites of its own. Instruction is delivered in French and the page states no English- or French-language test score (no IELTS, TOEFL, or similar) for admission. No portfolio, interview, or other special admission condition is listed on the page.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through SRACQ (Service régional d'admission au collégial de Québec) for programmes starting in 2027: the Fall 2027 intake has a first-round deadline of 1 March 2027, with further rounds on 1 May, 1 June and 1 August 2027 filling remaining seats; the Winter 2027 intake closes its first round on 1 November 2026, then 1 December 2026 and 2 January 2027. International applicants outside France apply through SRACQ from 1 September 2026 and must complete their file by 1 February 2027 for Fall 2027 entry, after which no international candidate can be admitted; Winter entry is offered only to French citizens, who may apply until 1 May 2027 for Fall or between 15 May and 15 October 2027 for Winter 2028.
