Program details

Overview

This pre-university Diplôme d'études collégiales (DEC) at Cégep de Matane develops analytical, creative, and communication skills through coursework in visual arts, cinema, literature, and communications. Students study art history and visual language, film analysis, and literary analysis spanning poetry, drama, and contemporary fiction, alongside creative-writing and visual-creation workshops and Quebec cultural studies. The program is organized into four sessions balancing general-education requirements with program-specific coursework, and it concludes with a cultural-mediation project in which students design and present cultural content to a chosen audience. The program suits students with an interest in the arts, storytelling, and cultural analysis who plan to pursue university studies afterward. Documented university pathways include art history, museum and film studies, graphic design, literary studies, archival and library science, journalism, media and advertising, translation, teaching at the preschool through secondary level, and related social-science fields such as law, anthropology, and criminology.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission follows Cegep de Matane's general collegial admission conditions rather than any subject-specific prerequisites for Arts, lettres et communication: applicants need a Quebec Diplome d'etudes secondaires (DES), or a Diplome d'etudes professionnelles (DEP) carrying the required secondary French, English and mathematics units, or training and experience the college judges equivalent after at least 24 months out of full-time study. Candidates missing up to six units toward the DES may be admitted conditionally, on the understanding those units are completed in the first college session. International applicants qualify with a recognised eleventh-year credential, such as a completed Premiere in the French system. The program page sets no additional prerequisite course, no minimum grade or average, and no separate English- or French-language test score beyond the DES itself; program-specific tests, interviews or auditions apply only where the ministry or college has set them, and none are listed for this program.
