Music and Social Sciences is a three-year double Diploma of College Studies (DEC) offered at Cegep de Sainte-Foy, combining a Music diploma with a Social Sciences diploma and leading to two separate credentials on completion. Students develop instrumental performance and music theory through personalized courses, workshops, and solo and ensemble concerts, alongside social science coursework in subjects such as anthropology, psychology, sociology, economics, and ancient civilizations. The dual diploma gives access to university programs in both music and the social sciences, including psychology, sociology, and related humanities and social science fields. It suits students who want advanced musical training in parallel with a full social sciences foundation rather than choosing between the two at the CEGEP stage, and who are prepared to sustain the workload of two simultaneous diploma programs.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Beyond Cegep de Sainte-Foy's general CEGEP admission conditions, this program requires completion of Secondary V Mathematics CST (or Mathematics 416) for the pathway without advanced mathematics, or Secondary V Mathematics TS or SN (or Mathematics 526) for the pathway with mathematics. Applicants must also pass a music entrance examination in three parts: ear training, a solfège test, and an audition on their principal instrument. No French or English language-proficiency test is mentioned for this program. The program is offered in the Fall term only, so applicants should plan to apply for a September start.
