Program details

Overview

Delivered alongside two partner institutions, Toronto Metropolitan University and George Brown College, the degree has students spend their opening two years on Centennial's campus before finishing the last two at Toronto Metropolitan University. Its curriculum is built around five themes carried through all years: political and social justice, personal and professional development, meaningful relationships and communication, reflective practice and critical thinking, and primary health care and health promotion, supported by coursework in anatomy and physiology, psychology and microbiology plus electives from other disciplines. Clinical placements begin in the first year and continue throughout the programme across community, acute and long-term care settings, with simulation-based labs and collaboration with inter-professional teams that include nurse practitioners, physicians, physiotherapists, pharmacists and social workers.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: A collaborative degree with Toronto Metropolitan University: years 1 and 2 at Centennial's Morningside Campus, years 3 and 4 at TMU. Entry is to first year only, and is not open to applicants who have already studied nursing. Academic base: an OSSD with six Grade 12 U or M credits, to include Grade 12 U English (ENG4U or EAE4U preferred), Biology SBI4U, Chemistry SCH4U, and mathematics at the Grade 11 U/M or Grade 12 U level from Functions and Applications, Functions and Relations, Advanced Functions, Calculus and Vectors, or Mathematics of Data Management. Minimum grades sit in the 70 to 75 per cent range and are set by the strength of the applicant pool each year. Applicants with previous college or university study need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.33 (C+), good standing, and no failure in a core prerequisite; anyone ten or more years away from formal education may be asked to repeat prerequisites, and mature applicants face additional conditions. Applications go through ontariocolleges.ca or ouac.on.ca with a non-refundable fee; 1 February is the equal-consideration date, and applications are accepted up to the fifth day of class. Before placement you need a completed Practice Requirements Record from a healthcare provider, communicable-disease immunisation records, a clear police check with vulnerable sector screening issued within six months, on-site respiratory mask fitting and testing, and CPR at Healthcare Provider level.
