Program details

Overview

This program leads to a DEC in Human Sciences at Collège d'Alma, completed over two years across four semesters, with three pathways that share common courses in the first two semesters: a standard exploratory track, one adding human biology and applied statistics, and one adding differential and integral calculus and linear algebra. From the second semester, students choose elective courses across a set of disciplinary areas including economics, geography, history, political science, psychology, administration, sociology, environment, communications and education, combining interdisciplinary coursework with collaborative workshops and field projects. Admission requires general college conditions plus Secondary 4 or Secondary 5 mathematics depending on the chosen pathway. The program suits students interested in human behaviour and society at local and global scales who enjoy teamwork, synthesis and applied field projects. Graduates can pursue university programs in fields such as law, criminology, psychology, business, teaching, engineering and international studies. Students living more than 60 kilometres from the college may qualify for an annual mobility bursary.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: The program defers to Collège d'Alma's general admission conditions (a Secondary School Diploma, or a Diploma of Vocational Studies plus specified Secondary 5 and Secondary 4 courses, or equivalent training and experience), and adds a profile-specific mathematics prerequisite: the Exploratoire profile and the Exploratoire with Biology and Statistics profile require Secondary 4 Mathematics in the Culture, société et technique sequence, while the Exploratoire with Mathematics profile requires Secondary 5 Mathematics in the Sciences naturelles sequence. No French or English language-proficiency test score, portfolio, or interview is published for this program; language requirements follow the institution's general admission conditions.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through the Service régional de l'admission des cégeps du Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean (SRASL): for the September 2027 intake, admission rounds close 1 March, 1 May and 1 June 2027, and for January 2027 entry the round closes 1 November 2026, with some programmes not offered at Winter intake. International applicants submit the same SRASL online application and are not given a separate closing date by Collège d'Alma; the college's international-students page directs them to the SRASL portal rather than publishing a distinct international deadline for the 2027 cycle. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
