Overview
The Associate of Arts with a concentration in Aboriginal Studies at College of New Caledonia examines the cultures, traditions, history, and contemporary concerns of Aboriginal peoples in Canada, with particular attention to First Nations in the CNC region. The two-year credential is delivered at the Prince George campus. Required courses include Yinka Dene Worldview, Aboriginal Peoples of Canada, Conversational Carrier, Indigenous Research Methods, Cultural Anthropology, Uncovering Our Origins, Composition & Style, Aboriginal Literature, and two Canadian history courses, supplemented by electives in mathematics, science, humanities, and social science. The degree guarantees 60 transfer credits toward a four-year degree at public colleges and universities in British Columbia, subject to confirmation through the BC Transfer Guide. Graduates are prepared for roles in community development, education and childcare, and counselling and social services, including positions with Aboriginal organizations and communities.

Admission Requirements: Admission requires CNC's Standard Admission Requirements: completion of a British Columbia secondary school program (BC Certificate of Graduation, Adult Graduation Diploma, or School Completion ‘Evergreen’ Certificate, or a comparable secondary credential from another province or country), being one course short of BC secondary completion, being 18 years of age or older on the first day of the first semester of attendance and not enrolled in school for at least the preceding year, or holding a valid Letter of Permission as a visiting student, together with CNC's English Language Proficiency requirement. Admission is open, on a first-qualified, first-admitted basis with no fixed capacity or selective process. Foundations of Math 11, or equivalent, is recommended in addition to these requirements to allow for greater course selection. Applicants who do not meet the ELP requirement can instead be considered for programs with General Admission Requirements only. Non-native English speakers must meet CNC's institution-wide English Language Proficiency requirement: IELTS Academic overall 6.0 (no band below 6.0), PTE Academic overall 59 (no section below 55), Duolingo English Test overall 115, CELPIP General with no section below 7, or CAEL overall 60+ (no subtest below 60), scores valid two years.
