Plumbing Apprenticeship Level 1 delivers the first block of in-school in-class training for apprentices registered in the Plumber (306A) apprenticeship, a compulsory trade in Ontario, following the Skilled Trades Ontario training standard. The level covers workplace safety, hazard recognition, and rigging and hoisting practices, together with the fundamentals of drainage, venting, and water distribution systems and the piping materials used in residential and commercial buildings. Apprentices practice measuring, cutting, and assembling piping systems in theory and laboratory sessions, and learn to interpret plumbing drawings and apply trade calculations for pipe layout and installation. Applicants must already hold an employer sponsor and a Training Agreement registered with Skilled Trades Ontario before receiving an Offer of Classroom Training. Successful completion contributes toward the Certificate of Qualification exam, and graduates may qualify for Red Seal endorsement to work across Canada. The level runs full-time, in person, at the Thunder Bay campus.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: To take part in the Plumber (306A) in-class training, applicants must first secure employment with a sponsor, such as a private employer, union, or trade association, and register a Training Agreement with Skilled Trades Ontario. Registered apprentices must be at least 18 years of age (16 in limited circumstances), have legal permission to work in Canada with a valid Social Insurance Number, and meet the trade's typical entry requirement of Grade 10 or equivalent. Once registered, apprentices combine on-the-job training with their employer and in-class training delivered by a Training Delivery Agent such as Confederation College, and receive an Offer of Classroom Training from the Ministry when it is time to attend. This program is not currently available to international students, who would additionally need a valid Social Insurance Number and a registered Training Agreement with a Canadian employer sponsor.
