Overview
Black and African Diaspora Studies at Dalhousie University is an interdisciplinary undergraduate program examining the histories, cultures, and experiences of Black communities in Canada and internationally. Students explore topics including identity, race, migration, colonialism, social justice, and cultural expression, drawing on disciplines such as history, sociology, political science, philosophy, literature, and health studies. The degree can be completed as a BA or BSc, with options for Major, Honours, Minor, or Certificate. Admission Requirements: Direct entry from a completed Grade 12 requires a minimum overall average of 70 percent, including Academic English 12 and four further academic Grade 12 subjects; the programme is offered as a BA or BSc, at Major or Honours level, plus a Minor and a Certificate. Admission to Dalhousie programmes is competitive, so meeting the minimum average does not guarantee a place. The programme's own page names no portfolio, interview or other non-academic condition, directing applicants instead to the separate admission pages for Canadian, international and transfer applicants for category-specific equivalencies. International applicants are assessed on the same subject list through Dalhousie's equivalency tables and must also meet the university's English-language requirement unless exempt, for example IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 90 overall with no section below 20.
