Overview
Theatre (Costume Studies) is an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts program at Dalhousie's Fountain School of Performing Arts in Halifax, delivered on campus with a September start and offered with an Honours option. Students learn to design and construct costumes using historical and contemporary techniques while studying how clothing reflects identity, culture, class, and gender across time, developing skills in pattern drafting, tailoring, draping, and construction through studio courses, workshops, and mainstage productions. The program combines hands-on making with historical and research-based study, preparing graduates for work in costume design, construction, wardrobe, and museum or heritage-organization roles. Admission requires completion of Grade 12 with a minimum overall average of 70 percent, including Grade 12 English and four additional academic subjects; applicants must also submit a letter of intent describing prior costume-related experience and, where available, photographs of their costume work.
