The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Fiction at Dalhousie University, offered jointly with the University of King's College, is the only program of its kind in Canada. It is a two-year limited-residency program with an exclusive focus on fiction, literary or genre. Students develop a query and manuscript under faculty guidance, combining an immersive June residency in Halifax with a January online residency focused on publishing. The limited-residency format allows students to continue other commitments while completing the degree, gathering in person once a year and meeting online during a second residency period each January. The program culminates in a completed or substantially developed manuscript suitable for submission to agents or publishers. Full-time completion takes two years or longer, with a program start each June.
