Overview
The Chemistry Associate Degree is an Associate of Science credential with a specialization in Chemistry, offered by Douglas College's Science and Technology faculty. Coursework covers the structure of matter, chemical properties of liquids and solids, the laws of thermodynamics, environmental chemistry, and connections between chemistry and biology, geology, medicine and engineering. The credential runs four semesters of full-time study, worth 60 transferable credits, of which at least 18 must be in Chemistry and nine of those at the second-year level. Graduation requires a minimum program GPA of 2.00 and at least half the coursework completed at Douglas College. Credits are designed to transfer to British Columbia's research universities (SFU, UBC, UBC Okanagan, UVic or UNBC) under the BC Transfer Guide, typically allowing entry into the third year of a related four-year bachelor's degree. Students may take an optional Co-operative Education stream, alternating study semesters with paid work terms. The program supports pathways into fields such as pharmacy, chemical engineering, research science and toxicology.
