Overview

The Geography and the Environment Associate Degree at Douglas College is a two-year, 60-credit, four-semester credential spanning the natural and social sciences, including economics, urban studies, policing and law, earth sciences, biology, and environmental studies. Coursework includes experiential learning in classrooms and open labs as well as off-campus field trips, where students conduct research, collect data, and observe phenomena using specialized equipment. The program addresses topics such as climate change, natural hazards, habitat destruction, food security, resource management, urbanization, and refugee movements. An optional Co-operative Education stream allows students to alternate semesters of study with paid, full-time work terms; participation requires planning two semesters in advance through the Co-op Office. A tuition-free, six-week online preparatory course, MATU 0500 Set for Stats, is available for students refreshing mathematics skills before the required statistics course. Courses selected according to the BC Transfer Guide allow graduates to enter the third year of a four-year bachelor's degree program at British Columbia research universities. Admission follows Open Enrolment under the college's General College Admission Requirements.
