Program details
Overview
This PhD programme develops advanced research and analytical skills in chemical engineering, preparing graduates for careers in scientific research, industry, and university teaching. Students deepen their expertise in a chosen specialization, critically evaluate the scientific literature, and develop rigorous methods of reasoning and experimentation under the direction of a research supervisor. The programme comprises 90 credits: a minimum of 15 credits of graduate coursework and 75 credits of thesis research. Candidates must pass the course Fondements du génie chimique with a minimum grade of B, and must complete a doctoral project planning course by the third term following first registration, also with a minimum grade of B; failing either requirement results in cancellation of candidacy. Candidates who already hold a graduate diploma may be granted an exemption from part of the required coursework credits. Instruction is delivered in French. New students are admitted in the fall, winter, and summer terms. The credential awarded is a Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.).
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a bachelor's or master's degree from Polytechnique Montréal, or a diploma deemed equivalent, and must have a strong academic record. Admission also requires securing the support of a professor who agrees to direct the candidate's research; a strong academic record alone does not guarantee admission.
