Polytechnique Montréal is a French-language public engineering school affiliated with the Université de Montréal and sharing its campus on the northern slope of Mount Royal in Montréal, Québec.
It teaches and researches engineering exclusively: undergraduate study leads to a 120-credit Bachelor of Engineering (baccalauréat en ingénierie, B.Ing.) in one of twelve specialisations — aerospace, biomedical, chemical, civil, electrical, geological, industrial, computer, software, mechanical, mining and engineering physics — normally completed in four years, with one to four mandatory four-month paid internships built into the sequence. Applicants who finished secondary school outside Québec and have no subsequent post-secondary study first complete an integrated 30-credit preparatory year, bringing the total to five years.
The B.Ing. carries automatic eligibility for membership in the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, the provincial body that regulates the engineer title.
Teaching is organised across seven departments plus a biomedical engineering unit operated jointly with Université de Montréal.
Graduate study spans research and professional master's degrees, DESS diplomas, second-cycle microprogrammes and doctorates across the same engineering fields. The student body numbers more than 10,300, of whom 29% come from outside Canada, representing 97 countries, and 29% are women.
All instruction is in French, and applicants schooled in an education system Polytechnique does not recognise as francophone must present a French-language test result before their academic file is assessed.

Admission Requirements: All instruction is in French, and language requirements are assessed first: applicants schooled in an education system Polytechnique does not recognise as francophone must present a qualifying French test result — DALF C1/C2 or DELF B2 (lifetime validity), or 400 (level B2) in every component of TCF Canada, TCF Québec, TCF tout public, TEF Canada or TEF Québec (2-year validity) — before the academic file is assessed. No French test is required of holders of a Québec DEC, a Canadian secondary diploma earned in French, a degree from a francophone Canadian university, a secondary diploma from a recognised francophone education system, Morocco's BIOF, or an AEFE-network schooling. Québec applicants enter the bachelor from the collegial system: a DEC in the appropriate field is the standard route, with separate published paths for pre-university DECs, technical DECs, prior university study and adult candidates. Applicants schooled outside Québec apply through published equivalence routes by qualification type (French baccalauréat, IB, OSSD and other Canadian provinces, US high school, classes préparatoires, prior university study, among others); those who completed secondary school outside Québec with no subsequent post-secondary study first complete an integrated 30-credit preparatory year, making the engineering degree five years in total. Bachelor application deadlines: fall entry 1 February (international) / 1 March (domestic); winter entry 1 June (international) / 1 November (domestic); no summer admission — and the two capped programmes, génie aérospatial and génie biomédical, admit in fall only. Graduate admission thresholds are published per country of prior study, with deadlines of 1 February (international) / 1 June (domestic) for fall, 1 June / 1 October for winter and 1 November / 1 February for summer.
