Overview
This certificate in advanced fire prevention technologies at Polytechnique Montréal reviews current fire-safety practices, knowledge, and communication tools used to protect people in public and private facilities and in high-rise buildings. Courses cover reading fire plans, applicable codes and standards, ventilation, fire suppression, prevention, and risk analysis and coverage for events such as festivals, sporting and cultural gatherings, and film shoots. The 30-credit program is delivered part-time, with evening courses offered both online and in person. It is intended for people already working in fire prevention who hold a certificate in fire prevention technologies from Polytechnique Montréal or a CEGEP, or who have completed a bachelor's degree in engineering or science, as well as professionals in industry, insurance, municipal fire prevention services, corporate fire brigades, prevention-system manufacturers, and institutions such as hospitals and schools. It can be combined with two other eligible certificates toward a cumulative bachelor's degree in fire prevention and emergency management or building technologies.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a certificate in fire prevention technologies from Polytechnique Montréal or a CEGEP, or have completed a bachelor's degree in engineering or science; the certificate also welcomes professionals in industry, insurance, municipal fire prevention services, corporate fire brigades, prevention-system manufacturers, and institutions such as hospitals and schools who want to deepen their fire-prevention knowledge. As with all Polytechnique Montréal undergraduate certificates, international students holding a study permit cannot be admitted, because these programs do not meet Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada's requirements for that visa category.
