— it helps other students.
Offered as a four-semester advanced-standing route, this higher diploma prepares students to become Registered Medical Laboratory Technologists through a mix of classroom learning, laboratory work and clinical placements. Students build the technical and critical-thinking skills needed to collect and analyze patient samples reliably, supporting diagnostic decisions and treatment evaluation, and study clinical chemistry and clinical hematology to operate equipment measuring blood and body fluid components. Clinical microbiology coursework covers preparing cultures of micro-organisms for identification, and students also prepare tissue samples for histological study, perform blood typing and cross-matching, and practise safe blood-drawing, building the accuracy and precision expected under the profession's quality assurance guidelines.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This Advanced Diploma is highly competitive and admits by rank on academic grades; no overall minimum GPA figure is published. Its own prerequisites are Grade 12 Mathematics (C or U), Grade 12 English (C or U), Grade 11 or 12 Biology (C or U), and Grade 12 Chemistry (C or U). The Advanced Standing route it names is open to graduates of Georgian's own Medical Laboratory Assistant program, for whom a grade point average of 65 per cent is recommended (not stated as a binding minimum), and to practising Medical Laboratory Assistants or Technicians holding OSMT, MLPAO, or CSMLS certification with three years of experience and supporting documentation, who may enter directly into Year 2 through the college's PLAR process. Before clinical placement, students must also hold immunisation records current under the Public Hospitals Act and a clear criminal reference and vulnerable-sector check. The programme page states no programme-specific language-test score; Georgian's institution-wide English Language Proficiency Requirement for diploma and certificate programmes applies instead — a minimum overall IELTS Academic score of 6.0, TOEFL iBT 79, or Duolingo English Test 110, from Georgian's international admissions page.
