Program details

Overview

The micro-credential builds practical skills for developing and maintaining communication tools relevant to crisis situations, along with crisis communication plans and programs. Content also covers public and media relations interview skills, and managing communication effectively across audiences such as business partners, elected officials, government authorities, media outlets, and the general public.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: The Crisis Communications micro-credential's only stated entrance requirement is a minimum age of 18. JIBC does not publish a minimum grade, GPA, or English/French language-test score, nor a portfolio, interview, work experience, or criminal record check requirement, for this program. Students who have already successfully completed EMRG-1334 (Information Officer) may transfer that course credit into the micro-credential, and a Prior Learning Assessment may be available for applicants with relevant external crisis-communications training. JIBC does not publish specific program intake or start dates on this page; applicants are directed to the 2026-2027 training schedule to select the term in which they wish to take their courses.

Application Details

Application Deadline: JIBC runs two admission models: Continuous Intake programs (most certificates and micro-credentials) accept and review applications year-round with no fixed deadline, while Scheduled Intake programs (its bachelor's degrees, diplomas, and EMS/paramedic and law-enforcement programs) publish a specific opening and closing date for each cohort. For example the Winter 2027 cohort (starting 4 January 2027) generally opens in August 2026 and closes between early November and early December 2026, and the Spring/Summer 2027 cohort (starting 3 May 2027) opens in December 2026 and closes between early March and early April 2027. Fall 2027 dates for most Scheduled Intake programs were not yet published at the time of research. JIBC does not publish a separate international deadline; international applicants use the same program-specific dates and must also budget time for study-permit processing. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
