Overview
This Complex Trauma Associate Certificate is designed for counsellors, therapists, psychologists, clinical Social Workers, mental-health professionals, and child and youth care workers. Practitioners who are working with children, adolescents and/or adult survivors of complex trauma will benefit. This program takes an integrative approach to the assessment and treatment of complex trauma, drawing on the most current clinical and evidence-based material on effective complex trauma intervention, as well as the most recent research on attachment, neurobiology, memory and dissociation. This program is situated within an understanding of culturally relevant practice and how multiple identities, social locations and historical contexts inform theory and practice. An applied, experiential learning model means you will develop clinical skills in assessment, treatment planning, and clinical interventions that will enable you to work effectively with a wide range of clients from diverse social locations.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The Complex Trauma Associate Certificate requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a field related to complex trauma, such as psychology, child and youth work, or social work, or 3 to 5 years of education, training and work experience in the complex-trauma field, or an equivalent combination of the two. JIBC does not publish a standardized English/French language-test score, minimum GPA, portfolio, or interview requirement for this program. Approximately three weeks before each course start, JIBC contacts applicants to verify their stated education and professional experience; anyone found without suitable education or experience is withdrawn with a full refund. Applicants who already hold equivalent training relevant to a specific course prerequisite may apply for a requisite waiver instead of meeting it directly. The certificate itself is awarded on successful completion of all five program courses with a minimum grade of C by December 31, 2027. No fixed program intake dates are published on this page; applicants are directed to the course calendar for current offerings.

Application Deadline:JIBC runs two admission models: Continuous Intake programs (most certificates and micro-credentials) accept and review applications year-round with no fixed deadline, while Scheduled Intake programs (its bachelor's degrees, diplomas, and EMS/paramedic and law-enforcement programs) publish a specific opening and closing date for each cohort. For example the Winter 2027 cohort (starting 4 January 2027) generally opens in August 2026 and closes between early November and early December 2026, and the Spring/Summer 2027 cohort (starting 3 May 2027) opens in December 2026 and closes between early March and early April 2027. Fall 2027 dates for most Scheduled Intake programs were not yet published at the time of research. JIBC does not publish a separate international deadline; international applicants use the same program-specific dates and must also budget time for study-permit processing. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
